About Us WHO WE ARE
Siym International is registered with the Kenyan Ministry of Gender, Culture, Sports and Social Services as a community based organization (CBO) - Registration No. SS/MSA/CD/SH/04/585. SIYM INTERNATIONAL is one of the East Africa’s fastest growing international volunteer vacation and volunteerism organization. Its ever-expanding programs offer a variety of volunteer and travel programs in 6 different countries throughout East Africa: Volunteer Abroad, Tours and Travels, Internship Abroad, Mini-Venture, Group Seasonal Escapes and Paid Teaching opportunities.
We are a private, non-profit, non-sectarian, engaging short-term and long term volunteers on micro-economic and human development programs in close partnership with local people worldwide. We also organize affordable and high quality volunteer in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi and humanitarian programs. Our participation supports local grass-root organizations and contributes in the fight against global problems including poverty, education, disease (Malaria, HIV/AIDS, and Tuberculosis) and other supportive issues affective global communities.
Since 2006, more than 120 world-travelers/volunteers have participated in SIYM INTERNATIONAL Teach Abroad, and other customized group programs. Our business has been growing substantially each year (an increase of nearly 40 percent since 2006) and is a true reflection of our respected and unique volunteer vacation and travel abroad programs.
Our volunteer abroad programs are focused on working in orphanages, teaching English, health projects and conservation efforts. In 2007, we sent 39 volunteers in a single project! Many volunteers are planning a trip with SI up through March 2010. Our philosophy involves more than simply placing a volunteer in a grassroots project. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of our clients: individualized placements, travel and adventure, cross-cultural learning experiences, in-country travel arrangements, free-time exploration, and other services as per the special needs of our participants.
Working at the invitation and under the direction of local leaders, volunteers help create a foundation for world peace through mutual international understanding. Our purpose is to maintain a genuine, sustained service partnership with the host community and provide volunteers a genuine opportunity to serve. Involvement in voluntary work is a unique, cost-effective way to gain life experience while traveling and helping to bring a smile to people's faces. SIYM INTERNATIONAL is recruiting both local and international volunteers to help coordinate our activities in the field. Volunteers will not be paid any salaries and will be expected to meet their own expenses
SIYM INTERNATIONAL is committed to providing our volunteers with several important opportunities and experiences:
- The opportunity to work with orphaned children, disadvantaged local residents, and rural women's groups where volunteers can leave lasting, positive results in the lives of the less fortunate.
- Meaningful volunteer abroad opportunities, a caring host family, and the strong support of a local in-country coordinator and professional staff members in the field.
- The opportunity to travel, to participate in cross-cultural learning, to be a part of an exciting expedition, and to learn and enjoy the “learning and earning experience” in our paid, English-teaching positions.
The aim of OUR ORGANIZATION is to give individuals an equal opportunity to make an individual difference within the destinations available.
SIYM INTERNATIONAL encourages and supports all individuals whatever their background, age or experience to volunteer and make an individual difference.
Whether you’ve just finished A levels, your background is care, admin, retail or managerial SIYM INTERNATIONAL will help you to make that difference.
Volunteer projects are as varied as you might imagine. Generally, international volunteer experiences fall into four main arenas:
- Community Development - placements might be building a school, setting up a water treatment facility, cleaning the streets or planting trees.
- Education - teacher placement or acting as a teaching assistant in a local school or an adult education program.
- Eco-Environmental work - placements might be in wildlife reserves or national parks, monitoring endangered species, or working a reforestation project.
- Social Welfare - working with under-privileged children, working with a women's co-op, or working in a hospital or orphanage.
VISION
The SI Community Based Organisation (CBO) is committed to bringing people to the innate potentiality because we are motivated and driven by what we see in the future of the children, youth, widows and the less privileged in society. We see their hope and energy, enthusiasm, ideals, abilities, their imagination and vision, as well as their willingness to take responsibility for direction to develop human life on earth. These are the major purview (scope) for social change, economics development and technical innovation.
OUR MISSION
The mission of SI Volunteers is to offer the most affordable as well as the highest quality volunteer and humanitarian abroad experiences - enabling us to make a contribution for all of humanity in its quest to make the world a better place. Through our volunteer and humanitarian trips abroad, we aim to spread love and compassion worldwide while improving the lives of destitute children and less-fortunate communities. We at SI also seek sustainable solutions in the fields of education, healthcare, conservation efforts and development issues through international volunteering.
